Intelligent augmented reality to support psychotherapy

Healthcare

The Challenge

On 28/12/2017 the Lazio Region admitted to grant our research project “Intelligent augmented reality in support of psychotherapy” of interest to support a series of behavioral and cognitive psychotherapy treatments.

The aim of the project is the development of a platform that is able to support a series of behavioral and cognitive psychotherapy treatments.

The Solution

Creation of a prototype platform able to support a series of behavioral and cognitive psychotherapy treatments, through:

  • “Augmented Reality”
  • behavioral and cognitive analysis systems based on Machine Learning
  • video analysis systems, to increase interaction with the environment

The solution consists in using “Augmented Reality” as a fruition tool through the use of Microsoft Hololens glasses, able, through artificial intelligence algorithms, to modulate the environment or the various features according to the patient’s mood and tastes. Using video analysis algorithms, which analyze the surrounding environment and in combination with the actions that the patient performs, Machine Learning algorithms can modulate images and various functionalities by increasing cognitive interactions.

Development and Configuration to support palliative therapies for invasive diseases in adolescent patients in the experimental phase.

The Benefits

Make a hospital, or any place of hospitalization, a “magical world” for young patients through the use of a glasses device that, through Augmented Reality, transforms an aseptic and sad world for children into a fun place with colors, animals and drawings, based on the patient’s mood, gender and even his tastes.

All this gives young patients the opportunity to fly with imagination, detaching themselves from the reality of a hospital and the problem they are experiencing. In addition, the environment is enriched with interactive and educational games that can guide and explain what is happening, up to the possibility of seeing a cartoon that interacts with the environment.
